Te Whiti
About this Artwork
Glorious is delighted to reveal our release of a digital edition of Gordon Walters’ Te Whiti, in association with Starkwhite Gallery and the Auckland University Press. This artwork will be released on the occasion of AUP’s launch of Francis Pound’s Gordon Walters book.
The digital edition of Te Whiti will be sold with:
- A physical edition of Francis Pound’s book
- A special physical version of Te Whiti, an unframed screen print from the Gordon Walters Estate embossed with the Estate’s blind stamp in celebration of the book and digital artwork launch.
Te Whiti is one of Gordon Walters’ most important paintings and, consequently, holds a significant place in the heart of New Zealand modernism and our wider art historical canon. It is Walters’ very first, fully realised, iconic koru painting, utilising his famous hard edged, uncompromising, modernist abstraction of the koru form, and was painted, in 1964, in the new medium (PVA paint) he would remain committed to for the rest of his career. Te Whiti marks the most significant turning point in Walters’ career, so it is particularly apt that the Estate has chosen it for this digital edition - as well as for the cover of Pound’s book.
Glorious' commitment to preserving and sharing the legacy of significant artworks ensures that Te Whiti can be appreciated by a broader audience in the digital age.
